Monteverdi Villa Muri Antichi
Built in the 11th century Villa Muri Antichi’s foundations certainly live up to it’s moniker – the name ‘Muri Antichi’ means ‘ancient walls’ – but that isn’t the case when it comes to this extremely beautiful estate.
Transformed by two genius Italian architects Ilaria and Giorgio Miani, the Villa Muri Antichi is a wonderful rustic villa that has a healthy dose of contemporary gloss. It has a state of the art gym in the basement when you glide down rustic, weathered-stone steps.
And a modern steel kitchen when you want to Tuscan feasts in the pleasant climate of the great Italy. When you just want to unwind and relax, you can pour a local tipple from the dining room’s ‘wine cellar’ shelves.
There’s a huge well-stocked library containing beautiful pieces of literature to choose from while you curl up in front of the living room’s wood-burning stove. The sunny climate is superb for alfresco barbecues in your very own private flower-filled garden which has it’s own paranomic views of the surrounding Val d’Orcia.

Cliveden Spring Cottage
Refined riverside stay Spring Cottage started life as the Countess of Orkney’s summerhouse in 1813. This bucolic three-bedroom stay rests amid the wooded grounds of five-star hotel Cliveden – the key players of the 1960s Profumo affair once frolicked here.
The cottage is surrounded by a private, flower-bedecked English garden; from a covered porch, guests can watch the Thames run by. Inside, there are cockle- and toe-warming open fireplaces and a country-style kitchen, where guests can rustle up leisurely breakfasts or intimate candlelit meals. The cottage is as blue-blooded as its stately neighbour, but a warm, homey ambience is the sugar-dusting on this quintessentially British confection.
With Hamilford Design studio at the helm, modern lakeside villa, Bowmore Lodge’s design evokes the homey hearthside of a Cotswolds’ Cottage of old, for modern serenity seekers. A deck overhanging Bowmore Lake, with sofas for alfresco drinks, complements the sleek, sustainable-timber clad villa.

Staff can whisk all kinds of countryside treats to your door (book the bed-and-breakfast rate for a hamper filled with edibles delivered in the AM), and swimming, spa-ing and alfresco dining are just a few minutes’ walk away in the Lakes By Yoo reception.
